Indian IT cos to hire 1 lakh in coming months

NEW DELHI: Switching over to robust recruitment mode after a dormant 2009, Indian IT players will hire nearly 1 lakh people in the coming months amid improving global economic conditions.

Coming after a forgettable year of hiring freeze, layoffs and salary cuts, the recruitment drive in the IT space is led by biggies such as Tata Consultancy Services (TCS) and Infosys.

An analysis of the hiring plans announced by various Indian IT companies shows that headcount in the industry is expected to go up by more than 98,000.

According to analysts, increased spending on IT infrastructure and improving overseas markets for outsourcers, are among the main factors for the upbeat hiring prospects.

Diptarup Chakraborti, who is a principal research analyst at global IT research firm Gartner said the industry is back on track with many projects lined up for completion.

"The industry has turned the corner and renewed optimism will bring back recruitment across the globe," he noted.

Last week, the country's largest software exporter TCS said it would increase headcount by 30,000 in next fiscal year while Infosys announced plans to hire 16,000 people this year.

Of the 12 companies which have announced their hiring plans, BPO giant Genpact said it would hire 10,000 people.
Besides, IBM is looking at recruiting 5,000 followed by Infosys BPO (2,000), Accenture (8,000) and Mphasis (2,000).

Going by Gartner estimates, the domestic IT market is expected to grow by 19-20 per cent in 2010, a sharp rise against a 2.6 per cent growth in 2009.

Infosys to hire 10,000 by March 2012

Infosys to hire 10,000 by March 2012

IT major Infosys Technologies will start construction work on its first software development centre in West Bengal, at Rajarhat near here, in three to six months, a top company official said today.

"We have paid the money and got possession of the land. We hope to start construction work in three to six months," Infosys Technologies Executive Co-Chairman S Gopalakrishnan said on the sidelines of a CII event here.

He said in the first phase, 5,000 jobs would be created and the approximate investment would be Rs 100 crore.

He said while 35,000 professionals had been already hired so far this fiscal, another 10,000 would be hired by the end of March, 2012. The present headcount of the company is 1.40 lakh.

When asked whether Infosys would shift its focus outside the US and Europe due to the slowdown in these economies, he said, "Any shift will take time."

"We are looking at the markets of China, South Africa, Malaysia and Indonesia," he added.

Gopalakrishnan said despite the global turmoil, the IT sector has shown resilience and there have been no lay-offs.

"There would, however, be consolidation in IT sector and those who have the niche capability will survive," he said.

iPad 3 coming

iPad 3 coming in Feb 2012: Report

LONDON: Apple is reportedly planning to launch a next-generation iPad, called an iPad 3, as early as February 2012.
According to report by Business Insider and PCMag, Citi analyst Richard Gardner revealed that the device would be similar to the iPad 2, but includes Apple's high-resolution retina display technology found on the iPhone 4 and iPhone 4S by doubling the iPad 3's screen resolution.
Gardner reportedly said that "several sources" told him that Apple could launch the iPad 3 in February, which would put its debut ahead of the first two generations of Apple's tablet.
The first iPad hit stores in April 2010 after being unveiled the month before, and the iPad 2 was unveiled and released in March 2011, the Sydney Morning Herald reports.
The analyst also said that "there do not appear to be any significant technical hurdles remaining" to prevent the launch of a high-resolution iPad, which contradicts previous reports that fitting such a dense screen into an Apple tablet was one of the reasons Apple iPad 2 maintained the 1024 x 768 resolution of the first iPad.
According to the report, Gardner also estimated that Apple would sell about 12 million to 13 million iPads in the final three months of this year.
The major sales competitor to Apple's iPad is widely considered the Amazon Kindle Fire in the US, which boasts much lower specs than iPads and Eee Pads.
